Single travel — here's some ways to avoid the hefty single supplements.

Without doubt, the topic we are asked about more than any other is single travellers. Travel companies always quote prices per double or twin share and there are usually hefty supplements for singles. What's the answer?

There are companies which are single-friendly. Contiki is the world's largest travel company for 18-35 year olds. Club Med and Trafalgar Tours cater for a range of age groups and Intrepid focuses on adventure tours for all ages. P&O Cruises are geared for all ages, while Young At Heart Holidays and Odyssey Travel specialise in travel for seniors. Young At Heart caters domestically and internationally to the over-60s market. Odyssey Travel is a non-profit agency specialising in travel for senior citizens, including educational and research tours.

Generally, what these companies have in common is that they will match you up with a same-sex room-mate so you can avoid paying the single supplement.

Alternatively, contact Singles Travel Connections, a travel agent solely dedicated to the solo traveller.
