Voting overseas

Thursday, October 25, 2001
Away from home and want to vote? Find out how here.

We have been receiving calls and e-mails from people who will be away from home on November 10, the date of our Federal Election.

If you are overseas, interstate or just not in your electoral roll area, you will need to do one of three things:

  1. Make a pre-poll vote at a special pre-poll voting centre.
  2. If you will be overseas, you will need to make a pre-poll vote in person at your nearest Australian Overseas Mission. For a full list of Overseas Missions, look on their website —
  3. Complete an application for a postal vote, available from post offices, Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) offices or Australian Overseas Missions.
